Looking forward…

School is back in session and the library has been a little quieter! Although I miss seeing all the kids everyday, it has been nice to finally have a chance to finish up a few of the ongoing projects around here and start some new ones.

Our main focus of late has been preparing for the annual book sale at Fall Fest. In addition to books, this year there will be some great deals on everything from furniture, to office supplies, to boxes full of stickers and labels! Check back for more information as the event approaches.

I’m also terribly excited about our new desk, which should be completed by early October! We have all seen the wonderful improvements to our fair library, and I think that an attractive, well-built desk will really top the place off nicely.

Last but not least, I just added over ten new titles to our “Recent Additions” page! Be sure to check it out!

Finally!

I had quite a time trying to upload these pictures, but I finally got it!

My apologies!

Wow! It has been a long time since I’ve posted on here, and so much has happened since then. I’m very sorry for being such a slacker, but it has been a bit of a whirlwind down here!

We had a very successful open house and retirement party for Danna on Monday. Despite the crazy weather, we had a very nice turn out! Also, the Summer Reading Program is in full swing, with only two days left (Thursday and Saturday morning) to sign up!

Come on in!

Well, there may be a few boxes scattered about still, and I may be working from behind a folding table, but things are once again functional here at the library! Soon we will be deciding on a check-out desk and getting the last of the stray books on the shelves and organized.

Also, we will be making plans for the Summer Reading Program in the next few days, so stay tuned for more on that! :)

Closing for Renovations

Beginning Wed., May 18, the Library will be closed for renovations. We should be back in action by Tues., May 31.

Obviously, I am thrilled about all of the up-dates we are making around here, but most of all, I am really excited about the reaction of all of you in the community! I would love for all of you out there to come have a look at all the things we are doing here!

Rotating Collection

If you are a frequent visitor to the Library, then you probably know about our Rotating Book Collection, and there is a good chance that you have been patiently waiting for a new batch of books. Well, your wait is over!!

Thanks to our participation in the South Central Kansas Library Systems, we have access to a number of exciting programs, grants, and unbelievably helpful people. For most patrons, however, the one program that ranks first is the SCKLS Rotating Collection. Every few months a van comes to pick up about 15 boxes of books, and leaves another 15 in their place!

Although the collection includes many regular fiction and non-fiction books, it’s true beauty lies in the availability of both large print and audio books. Because of the higher prices of these formats, they don’t often fit into the Library budget, but with SCKLS our shelves are full!

So be sure to come by and see what we have to offer. You may be suprised!

Interlibrary Loans!

What a difference a week makes! I’m sure most of you around town have noticed our new and improved facade, but if you’ve not been down main street you should swing this way and have a look! It’s….well, improved!
On another note, we are restarting the Interlibrary Loan program as of today. If you’d like to request materials from outside our Library, drop by and sign an ILL policy agreement and we will try to get you what you need. I hope to have a copy of the agreement form up on this website in the next few days.

Another eventful week!

If you happen to stop by the Library this week, the first thing that you would probably notice is that I’m in the process of moving all of the books and shelves out of the very front of the children’s area. It all has to be cleared out by Friday, when a crew comes out to replace the front door and window. Trust me when I say that this sort of manual labor is not something I would do without very good reason!

I have also been “weeding” out a fair number of duplicate titles and such, and as soon as I get a few other things out of the way, we will start having a little “for sale” section. There are quite a few really neat books that will be available to purchase with your donation!

And finally…more new books! Two of the recently ordered books are on back-order, but I still put nine new titles on the shelves today! As always, you can view them all on the “new additions” page.

New books!

Thanks to Memorial gifts in honor of Jean Ebersole and Barbara Ast, we were able to purchase a number of new titles…visit the “new additions” page to check them out! By the way, did you know that you can click on any of the jacket covers pictured to get more detailed information on any of the books? You can even see how I rated the books that I have read!
Also, I just got done ordering 12 more books in honor of Doris Blackwell and my mom, Phyllis Crowell. Those should be showing up within a couple of weeks, and I will be sure to let you all know when they do.

Busy, busy…

There’s a lot going on at the Library this week and I’m not sure what I’m more excited about! Things are really starting to fall into place for the up-coming renovations. We just got some carpet samples in and are preparing to get that ordered, and we are anxiously awaiting the arrival of the new window and door. There’s an awful lot of hard work ahead, but it will certainly be worth it!

Also, I am meeting with a Library consultant today to discuss the best way to organize our young children’s section. I can hardly wait to get that area tidied up and make it easier for kids to find the “perfect” book.

I’m really looking forward to the future of this Library. I hope many of you stop in in the coming weeks to see all the changes in progress!
